Solana news: Thunes Expands Real-Time Payments, Strengthening Ripple’s Global Reach

Thunes Launches Real-Time US Payment Capabilities
Thunes, a key partner of Ripple, has announced the launch of real-time payment capabilities in the United States. By connecting directly with a Tier 1 financial institution, Thunes now offers access to ACH, Same-Day ACH, and all real-time payment rails. This move strengthens the infrastructure for cross-border settlements and enhances the global payments narrative for Ripple and XRP.
Expanding Global Payment Infrastructure
Thunes holds 50 Money Transmitter Licences, enabling operations across every US state and territory. Its network spans 140 countries, supports 90 currencies, and connects to over 12 billion mobile wallets, stablecoin wallets, and bank account endpoints. The integration of Ripple’s blockchain and digital asset technology into Thunes’ network, particularly following their expanded partnership in September 2025, has further enhanced the SmartX Treasury System.
This integration allows real-time US settlements within a network that leverages Ripple’s blockchain payments infrastructure and XRP as a bridge asset. Over 140 countries can now send funds to the US using rails connected to Ripple technology, with Ripple payments covering more than 90 payout markets and processing over $70 billion in volume.
Institutional Growth and Real-World Asset Tokenisation
The XRP Ledger’s real-world asset ecosystem surpassed $3 billion in tokenised value in April, driven by a diverse mix of assets and expanding institutional utility. The next phase of growth is expected to focus on cash and cash-equivalent assets, such as money market funds and US Treasury bills, as well as tokenised equities. The broader vision is for a globally distributed financial system where regulated assets can trade seamlessly across asset classes.
Why This Matters for Solana and the UK
Thunes’ expansion demonstrates the increasing adoption of blockchain-powered payment solutions in regulated markets. For the UK, which is a major fintech hub, these developments highlight the importance of robust cross-border payment infrastructure and regulatory compliance. The Solana ecosystem, known for its high-speed and low-cost transactions, is similarly focused on real-world utility and global reach. UK-based builders and users can draw insights from Ripple and Thunes’ approach to licensing, institutional partnerships, and integration with traditional financial systems, informing future Solana-based payment and DeFi initiatives.
