Solana news: Forward Industries Transfers $32M in Solana to Coinbase Prime Amid Heavy Losses

Forward Industries Moves Significant Solana Holdings
Forward Industries, a Nasdaq-listed firm that transitioned from product manufacturing to a Solana treasury vehicle, has transferred 455,784 SOL (valued at approximately $32 million) to Coinbase Prime. This move follows a month of inactivity and comes amid ongoing market volatility for digital assets.
Largest Corporate Holder Faces Substantial Losses
As of 30 March, Forward Industries disclosed holdings exceeding 7 million SOL and SOL equivalents, making it the largest corporate holder of Solana. On-chain analysis estimates the company is carrying around $1.1 billion in unrealised losses, reflecting the broader downturn in the digital asset market. At the time of the transfer, SOL was trading at about $66, down roughly 77% from its all-time high in January, according to CoinGecko.
Implications of the Transfer
Coinbase Prime is a platform tailored for institutional investors, providing custody, trading, and settlement services. Large transfers to such exchanges can indicate a potential intent to sell, but may also represent repositioning, staking adjustments, or asset reallocation between custodians. This is not the first such transfer by Forward Industries; in October 2025, the company moved nearly 993,000 SOL to Coinbase Prime, with a portion later sent to Galaxy Digital, one of its backers.
Institutional Backing and UK Relevance
Forward Industries' investor base includes notable firms such as Galaxy Digital, Jump Crypto, and Multicoin Capital. The company's chairman, Kyle Samani, has demonstrated ongoing commitment by increasing his personal stake in Forward Industries and, by extension, Solana. For UK-based investors and institutions, this development highlights the scale and strategies of major Solana holders, offering insights into institutional behaviour during periods of market stress. It also underscores the importance of robust custody and trading infrastructure, which is increasingly relevant as UK regulatory frameworks for digital assets evolve.
Why This Matters for the UK Solana Ecosystem
- Shows how large-scale holders manage Solana assets during market downturns
- Highlights the role of institutional platforms like Coinbase Prime
